Denim, in every form it takes as a garment. Jeans in every fit, rise, wash and weight are the bulk of the floor, followed by denim jackets, shirts, skirts, dresses, shorts and children's denim. The range runs from basic five-pocket work jeans up to fashion washes with heavy finishing, though the market's centre of gravity is low-to-mid-range product made for volume.

Because the manufacturers are local, the market also functions as a showroom for production capacity. Stalls that sell stock jeans by the carton will, in the same conversation, quote a made-to-order run in your own fit, wash and branding — with the washhouse and the sewing floor a few kilometres away.

Denim fabric itself is traded in the town too, alongside the wash chemistry, rivets, buttons, labels and leather patches that go into the finished product. For a brand developing its own denim, Xintang is a full supply chain rather than a market.

Xintang is a price market. Stock jeans are sold by the carton and priced for volume; minimums range from a few dozen pieces per style at the smaller stalls to several hundred at the manufacturers' own units. Single-piece buying is possible at some stalls but is not what the market is built for.

The variables that matter in denim are fabric weight, the fabric's origin and composition, and the wash. Ask for the weight in ounces or grams per square metre, ask whether the denim is ring-spun or open-end, and ask what the wash process involved — an enzyme wash and a heavy stone-and-bleach finish are different products with different costs and different lifespans, and they photograph almost identically.

For made-to-order runs, the minimums start in the hundreds of pieces per fit and wash, and the lead time is driven by the washhouse rather than the sewing. Approve a washed sample, not a raw one; the wash changes the fit.

Xintang is in Zengcheng District, roughly an hour east of central Guangzhou by road and reachable by Metro Line 13 and the Guangzhou–Shenzhen intercity railway. Most buyers travelling with cartons arrange a car.

Plan a full day. The market alone covers a large floor, and any factory or washhouse visit is a separate stop within the town. It is a long way from the station-district markets and does not combine with them in one day.
