Zhan Xi Lu means, literally, the road west of the station — and that is exactly what it is. The strip runs off the western side of Guangzhou Railway Station, in the middle of the densest concentration of wholesale trade in the city, and it has built a reputation as the slightly cheaper alternative to the better-known markets on the southern side.
The market proper is three named buildings: the Zhan Xi Clothing Wholesale Building, the Zhuo Mei Clothing Wholesale Building and the Jin Du Clothing Building. Together they draw a notably international buyer base — North American, African, Japanese, Korean and Eastern European buyers trade here alongside domestic wholesalers.
