Hongyun Footwear Materials & Shoe Industry Plaza
230,000m² in Liaoxia Village given over to shoe materials: three phases covering leather and components, finished footwear, and the machinery that makes them.

Houjie makes shoes at a scale that needs its own supply market, and Hongyun is it. The plaza covers around 230,000m² in Liaoxia Village and is the largest one-stop leather and shoe-materials market in the town — the place the district's thousands of footwear manufacturers buy from, and the main gathering point for its shoe-materials export trade.
It is organised into three phases, and knowing which one you need before you arrive is the difference between a productive morning and a long walk. Phases one and two are materials and finished goods; phase three is machinery.
What the market sells
Phases one and two carry the components of a shoe. Leather in every grade and finish alongside synthetics; uppers, linings and insoles; outsoles and midsoles in rubber, EVA, TPR and PU; heels, shanks, toe puffs and counters; laces, eyelets, buckles and decorative hardware; adhesives, finishes, cartons and packaging. Handbag hardware and leather-goods components trade in the same halls, which is why bag developers use the plaza as often as shoe people do.
Finished footwear is sold here too — dress, casual, sneakers, sandals and boots — much of it OEM production made for international brands in the surrounding factories.
Phase three is the part that surprises visitors: shoe machinery and its components. Cutting presses, lasting and stitching machines, sole-attaching lines and the spare parts to keep them running. The customers are the factories next door, and it is one of the few markets in China where a buyer can see the materials, the finished product and the equipment that links them within a single site.
Prices, minimums and how buying works
Materials are bought by the hide, the sheet, the pair or the thousand depending on the component, and minimums are low enough that a developer can buy a full bill of materials for a single prototype. That is the plaza's real value: you can specify and physically assemble a sample shoe before committing to any factory.
Get specific about the material, because the loose vocabulary of the trade hides large cost differences. "Leather" covers top-grain, split, bonded and coated; "PU" covers everything from a durable coated fabric to something that will crack in a season. Ask for the material by name, ask to see a cut edge, and get it written on the quotation.
Soles are where the money is. A custom outsole needs a mould per size and carries both a tooling charge and a production minimum in the high hundreds or low thousands of pairs. Choosing from a supplier's existing sole library removes the tooling cost entirely and drops the minimum by an order of magnitude, usually with no visible difference in the finished shoe.
Planning a visit
Liaoxia Village sits on the North Ring Road in Houjie, roughly an hour from Guangzhou and 50 minutes from Shenzhen. The plaza is large enough that most buyers arrange a car for the day rather than walking between phases.
Come with a reference shoe and a written specification. Hongyun rewards a buyer who arrives knowing what they need and is simply overwhelming to browse.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy materials without placing a production order?
Yes. The plaza sells to anyone, and minimums on most components are low enough to build a single prototype from scratch.
What is in each phase?
Phases one and two: leather, shoe materials and auxiliaries, handbag hardware and finished shoes. Phase three: shoe machinery and its components.
Is this the same as the Houjie footwear market?
Hongyun is the largest single market within Houjie's wider footwear cluster. The town has more than ten specialised shoe-material markets; this is the one most buyers mean.
