Haiyin Fabric Market
Guangzhou's fabric market for small quantities: a compact riverside complex on Yanjiang Road where a metre or two is a normal purchase rather than an inconvenience.
Haiyin — sometimes written Highsun — is the answer to the problem Zhongda creates. Zhongda is built for people buying rolls; if you need four metres of something good, you will spend a day being quoted sample prices by traders who would rather you came back with a real order.
Haiyin is built the other way round. It sits on the north bank of the Pearl River on Yanjiang Middle Road, in a compact complex you can cover properly in an afternoon, and it is tuned to designers, tailors, costume departments, sampling studios and small labels buying cut lengths.
What the market sells
The range is broad rather than deep, which is exactly right for the buyer it serves. Suiting and shirting, wool and wool blends, silks, linens, cottons, jerseys, lace and embroidered panels, lining and interlining, plus a strong home-textiles and curtain section on the upper levels.
Because the customer is often making a single garment, the shops behave differently from Zhongda's. Staff will cut to length without negotiation, they hold far more colourways per construction, and they are used to explaining what a fabric actually is rather than assuming you already know.
Several vendors also carry genuinely high-end cloth — Italian and Japanese suiting, real silk, fine merino — in quantities that would be uneconomic to stock in a wholesale market. For sampling a premium product before committing to bulk, that matters.
Prices, minimums and how buying works
Per-metre prices at Haiyin are higher than Zhongda's roll prices, and that is the trade you are making. For a sampling budget it is almost always the cheaper option overall, because you are not buying thirty metres of a fabric you have not yet decided on.
There is no meaningful minimum. A metre is a normal purchase; so is half a metre for a colour test. Bargaining works less well than in a wholesale market — margins here are built on small transactions — but prices are marked more honestly to begin with.
Use it as a staging post rather than a destination. Buy your cut lengths here, make the sample, decide, and then take the specification to Zhongda for the production quantity. Several Haiyin vendors will tell you which Zhongda market carries the same cloth in bulk if you ask.
Planning a visit
Yanjiang Middle Road runs along the north bank of the Pearl River in Yuexiu District; Haizhu Square station on Metro Lines 2 and 6 is the closest stop, a few minutes' walk west. Opening hours are roughly 09:00 to 18:00.
It pairs naturally with the Yide Lu accessory markets and the wedding dress street, both within about fifteen minutes on foot. An afternoon covers all three if you are sampling rather than buying volume.

Can I really buy just one metre?
Yes. Haiyin exists for cut-length buying and single metres are routine — that is the difference between it and the Zhongda district.
Is it more expensive than Zhongda?
Per metre, yes. For a sampling budget it is usually cheaper overall, because you are not committing to a roll of something you have not tested.
Should I buy production quantities here?
No. Sample here, then take the specification to Zhongda or Humen for bulk. Several Haiyin vendors will point you at the wholesale source themselves.
